Located in Icolo e Bengo, 30 km from the capital, Luanda New International Airport is the basic project of the Angolan Government's strategic implementation and the landmark project of bilateral cooperation between China and Angola. It will become the most complete, largest and dynamic international airport in Africa in the future.
The new airport is planned to be designed and constructed with an annual passenger throughput of 15 million people, an annual take-off and landing of 100,000 sorties and cargo throughput of 50,000 tons of capacity for design and construction. Construction of 4F (take-off and landing A380) and 4E flight zones, as well as related auxiliary facilities; Airport construction area of various types of buildings up to 500,000m2 (including terminal building construction area of 185,000m2); Road and green area of 1.2 million m2. After the completion and opening of the new airport, it has promoted the communication between Angola and Africa and other parts of the world, promoted the development of the airport industry, injected new vitality into Angola's economy, and brought diversified life experiences to Angolan people.
Beijing Jinghangan Airport Engineering Co. Ltd. undertook the airport AGL lighting project, power supply installation, roadside lighting project, and operation and maintenance of individual construction substations. The construction duration was of 16 months, from July 2017 to November 2018.
