Tanzania has the highest mountain of the continent, the deepest lakes, the largest inland river systems, largest wildlife reserves and a rich variety of tropical wildlife. Here, you can enjoy the snow-capped Kilimanjaro mountain, the Indian Ocean in the form of thousands of coral cay, can also feel the primate habitat of the original tropical rainforest and vast tropical grassland.
However, not much is known about all this, because Tanzania’s poor aviation industry prevents many people from having a close encounter with Tanzania. Mwanza, Tanzania’s second largest city, is not only sunny and mineral-rich, but also home to the Sukuma tribe. But the lack of an airport has seriously hindered the local tourism and economic development.
In order to change this situation, Tanzania officially launched a new project of Mwanza International Airport in 2013. The project is located 10 kilometers from the city centre of Mwanza and is a civil airport. The project covers five major areas: passenger terminal, cargo terminal, control tower, airport runway and apron. The airport has an elevation of 1,147 meters (3,763 feet), a runway length of 3,113 meters (10,212 feet) and a width of 45 meters (148 feet), with a target of providing services to 1 million passengers annually.
Beijing Jinghangan Airport Engineering Co., Ltd. undertook AGL lighting works, ATC electrical works, Cargo terminal electrical works and Power Station Electrical Works. The construction duration was 24 months, from September 2014 to September 2016.
