Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport is located in the center of Qingdao City, Shandong Province, China. In 2011, Qingdao New Airport was historically included in the 12th Five-Year Plan of China's National Economy, the National Comprehensive Transportation System, the National Civil Airport Layout Plan and the 12th Five-Year Plan of China Civil Aviation. The airport positioning has also been upgraded from the original general trunk Airport to the district, regional portal hub airport.
Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport project was officially launched in 2015. The project involves the construction of two parallel long-distance runways with a length of 3600 meters, a runway spacing of 2200 meters and an area of 450,000 square meters of terminal buildings. The construction period was about 4 years. After completion, the project could meet the requirements of passenger throughput of 35 million people, cargo and postal throughput of 500,000 tons, and aircraft take-off and landing of 300,000 sorties.
